EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a mind-body based therapy that has been proven effective in treating many issues such as:
We shall not cease from exploration,
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.— T.S. Eliot
- Trauma and PTSD
- Childhood abuse
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Eating disorders
- Phobias
- Disturbing memories
- Sleep disturbances such as nightmares
- Performance anxiety
EMDR is a tool that can help some people work through these traumas at an accelerated pace. Through activating both sides of the brain, there is a way to process the trauma and resolve it in a way that makes it not so “loaded” anymore. A person still retains all of their memories and experiences, there just isn’t the same intense emotional charge connected to them.
Some clients may come to see me just for EMDR. Other times, I may suggest EMDR as part of our treatment. We may do a few EMDR sessions, and then continue with our regular therapy.
